As my dogs snored beside me (and occasionally stirred or barked at the booms), I finished the last painting of 2024 around midnight. Happy 2025! 🎉 This little pupperoni is inspired by the photo of a dog who who was looking for a home at the ARL of Iowa recently. His sweet face and artful nose were irresistible! You can't adopt all the dogs, but you can paint them!
This year was super challenging. In July I lost my husky Dukie. We were together for 13 years. He was at least 16. In his older age he started to have some joint pain like most dogs do. When the vet did X-rays they found part of a .22 bullet in his leg. I'll never know all that he endured in the first years of his life. Still he was the sweetest, kindest dog I've ever known and was always up for an adventure. He made people happy just by existing. I will spend the rest of my years trying to be a little more Dukie.
In August my marriage and relationship that spanned my entire adult life came to a close. I'm 52 so that's a really long time lol. You may notice my name changed ... Luckily the initials (which I sign my paintings with) are still the same! It was a confusing, complicated, and painful year and at the end of everything I just felt very empty and exhausted but I am beginning to find peace and healing. Dogs, art and being out in nature help!
“You have to live through it and love it and move on and be better for it and run as far as you can in the direction of your best and happiest dreams across the bridge that was built by your own desire to heal.” -- Cheryl Strayed
Wishing you peace in 2025!
